2017 Summer Newsletter

Summer-Blog.png

Message from the CEO

ceo

Greetings to all and welcome to the summer WealthEngine Customer Newsletter. It’s been an exciting summer, and we’re eager to share the latest updates at WealthEngine with all of you. We are proud to be the leader in the fundraising industry. We understand the challenges you face on a day-to-day basis and how wealth intelligence can help. It all begins with gaining a better understanding about your donors and prospects, and their needs, interests, and inclinations.

We’re excited to give back to you in our quarterly newsletter. As a break from previous issues, we have decided to focus this one solely on fundraising. After all, our products and solutions were created to help fundraising professionals learn more about their potential donors and maximize their contributions.

The highlight of our summer was sponsoring this year’s APRA annual conference in Anaheim, CA. This year, we were proud to make a splash at the show with an increased presence. We had the opportunity to present to an audience of fantastic prospect researchers, network with clients, and learn more about the challenges you face and how we can best help you. I had the pleasure of attending myself, and it may have been the best event that I have participated in over my three years here at WealthEngine. The customer engagement was terrific; the general presentation content was extensive and topical; and the overall goodwill with partners, prospects, long-standing customers, and nonprofit leaders was as strong as I’ve seen. I look forward to returning next year when the event makes its way to the east coast in Pittsburgh.

At APRA, we announced our integration with Omatic Software. Omatic has served the nonprofit industry for years, helping them to advance their fundraising and database management by integrating, extending, and optimizing software and processes. We have worked with Omatic to develop and release the ImportOmatic Connector for WealthEngine. We know how much our clients appreciate the convenience of accessing WealthEngine data directly in their fundraising software. The ImportOmatic Connector does that, allowing for seamless integration of WealthEngine data directly into Raiser’s Edge™.

Our last big piece of news for the summer has been the expansion of our customer service offerings. We are committed to our clients’ success. We’ve heard your request for more personalized support in using wealth intelligence to achieve fundraising goals, so we have some exciting new offerings for you. Starting immediately, we have added an additional 30 minutes to our already free weekly trainings. We’ve added open office hours with our knowledgeable nonprofit WE consultants for advice on industry best practices and strategy. We’ve also created a bi-weekly discussion for you to engage directly with our Director of Client Services, Josh Vichness. Finally, we’ve extended our support hours to 8 PM ET to accommodate our west coast clients. All of this is offered to you at no additional cost.

With all the excitement of the summer, it’s easy to overlook that we have more coming up. We are committed to providing you all with additional resources and content to help you meet your demands and challenges. As such, we feature best practices and industry trends within our regular blog articles, customer success stories, webinars, and published thought leadership. Our most recent features are listed in our newsletter below.

We are proud of the 3,000+ organizations that are part of the WealthEngine customer family. We are committed to providing the best wealth intelligence products and solutions, and the industry’s most experienced team to assist you in achieving your goals. Please share your feedback with us and let us know what topics you would like to learn more about in future newsletters.

With regards,
Mark

WE Spotlight: APRA Prospect Development Annual Conference 2017

Prospect Development 2017 – WOW! This wasn’t just a conference but rather an experience, one that was filled with passionate industry professionals and thought-leaders. Even better, this was the 30th anniversary and we could not have been more excited to be there to celebrate this milestone.

Where do we begin?

The conference kicked off with an 80’s themed reception complete with bright colors, scrunchies, side ponytails, blue eyeshadow, and music that brought back some great memories (and maybe a few flashbacks of some questionable outfit choices). We were especially excited to sponsor the reception, which included WE Mint to Be, the signature cocktail for the evening. We hope everyone enjoyed their mojitos!

We also enjoyed helping make the conference experience as best as possible. Besides the opening reception and the cocktail, you may have noticed the WE charging station which many attendees used to take a break and recharge their batteries, both literally and figuratively.

One of our favorite parts of attending Prospect Development every year is having the chance to speak with clients and prospects in-person. We even had a bigger booth this year so we had more room to meet with everyone! It’s such a great opportunity for us to hear firsthand about what’s working and what you’d like to see from us in the future. We also love talking about what’s happening in the nonprofit world in general and how it impacts what you do. It’s exciting and every year new trends emerge as a result of the evolution of fundraising. The knowledge of everyone at PD 2017 continues to be astounding and immeasurable.

Speaking of knowledge, we enjoy sharing what we’ve learned and discovered since the previous year’s conference. Several WE colleagues had the opportunity to present to some excited audiences:

  • John Andrews, one of our top data scientists, presented as part of the Data Analytics Symposium. He brought some magic to the group, discussing predictive model interpretability and data accuracy in his Disney themed session.
  • One of our knowledgeable consultants, Anna Sheehan, spoke about major gift portfolio analysis and how WE solutions can be used to direct major gift officers to their best potential targets.
  • As part of an interactive session members of our sales team spoke about the importance and impact of using real-time strategies to identify an online donor’s giving capacity as the donation is being made.

An additional highlight to PD 2017 was being neighbors with Omatic Software in the exhibitor hall. We recently announced the launch of the ImportOmatic Connector for WealthEngine which provides nonprofit organizations with a more flexible way to import, map, clean, and customize WE data in Raiser’s Edge™. We were very excited to jointly speak with conference attendees about the Connector and how easy it is to use.

Since the conference was in Anaheim we couldn’t miss out on a chance to visit Disney. WE President and CEO, Mark Logan, hosted a fantastic dinner at Tortilla Joe’s in the Magic Kingdom with 30 clients and prospects. The conversation was lively, with topics ranging from favorite sessions at the conference to how organizations are utilizing WealthEngine to who had the best swag (we may be biased but our WE socks were a hit with attendees).

Overall, WE had a great time at APRA Prospect Development 2017 and celebrating 30 years of industry leadership. We couldn’t begin to count the number of valuable conversations we had and everyone we interacted with. We look forward to next year. See you in Pittsburgh!

Five Keys to Successfully Involve Volunteers in Fundraising

Volunteer-Fundraising.png

Involving volunteers in nonprofit fundraising can be challenging and at times downright tricky, especially with the recent decline in the volunteer rate. This makes it all the more important to identify the right volunteers and have strategies in place to retain them. To be successful involving volunteers in fundraising, organizations should consider these key factors:

  • Select the right volunteer for the right job:  Volunteers want to participate in activities in which they are comfortable and will achieve success.  Volunteers can participate in a variety of fundraising activities, including annual campaigns, special events, major gift or capital campaigns or corporate and foundation relations.
  • Provide the volunteer with the tools and training they need for success: It is the staff person or consultant’s job to make certain the volunteer’s job is achievable by providing the needed resources.  Volunteers should be trained in the art and science of fundraising.  Consider inviting volunteer fundraisers to attend industry conferences as well as providing your own, internal training and policies.
  • Involve the volunteer in meaningful, productive activities:  No volunteer wants to do “busy work;” get an intern to do that.  Help your volunteers feel good by giving them impactful opportunities.  When volunteers see the genuine difference they can make, they will continue to be passionate ambassadors for your mission.
  • Track volunteer activities and provide assistance when needed:  Volunteers cannot be trained and forgotten.  Staff must monitor their activities and assess when they need support and when they need assistance or reassignment.
  • Steward volunteers appropriately: Your volunteers may not want a lot of public recognition, but they do want to be thanked appropriately.  A personalized thank you, lunch with a member of the leadership team, a volunteer recognition event, and/or ongoing communications about the impact of their work will go a long way towards securing support and growing relationships.

If all of this sounds like a big investment of time and resources, you may be wondering, “Wouldn’t it be easier just to do it myself?”  The answer to that is “maybe.”  It may well be easier to do it yourself, but it will not be as effective.  Volunteers bring some special qualities to the table that we as professional staff cannot compete with. They provide:

  • Credibility for the organization just because they are unpaid “volunteers”
  • Peer networks that are all potential supporters of our organizations
  • Skills and talents from other areas of their lives, like business and professional certifications
  • Creativity and enthusiasm that can breathe new life into your operations

Accessing Wealth Data in Real-Time Through an API: It’s Not as Difficult As You Might Think

Sounds difficult, but we promise you it’s not. You really can get this information quickly, allowing you to take immediate action so you’re not missing out on valuable opportunities.

Predictive Lead Scoring and Analytics – It’s Easier Than You Think.

WE-Analyze-Blog-Image.png

The statement ‘predictive lead scoring and analytics made easy’ seems counterintuitive. How can lead scoring and analytics be easy? If it was easy wouldn’t everyone be doing it?

According to a marketing effectiveness study by The Lenskold and Pedowitz Groups, 68% of successful marketers cite lead scoring as most responsible for improving revenue contribution. Additionally, the Pareto Principle says that about 80% of your sales comes from the top 20% of your customers. These statistics should give you pause.

Think about it. What if you could find new prospects that look like your best customers and discover new opportunities among people you already know? Simply put, wouldn’t you want to find prospects that have the same characteristics as those in the top 20% of your customers? Having these actionable insights can dramatically impact your sales and marketing strategies, resulting in increased revenue. This is empowering and valuable information.

Let’s take it a step further with an example:

A luxury retail organization is developing a strategy for their holiday marketing campaign. Specifically, they are planning to host an instore event and want to ensure they are inviting the right people so that they get the most out of the dollars spent. They also want the event to be enticing so both customers and prospects attend.

The organization analyzed their top customers residing within a 30 mile radius of the store location to develop a customer profile. Surprise! These customers have an affinity for equestrian and tend to drive a Lexus. Just those two data points alone influence their marketing plan. What about partnering on the event with Lexus or an equestrian-focused organization? Additionally, the retailer can now identify prospects who fit this customer profile and have the same interests, increasing the likelihood that they will be interested in attending the event.

Going forward, the organization can now score new prospects and customers to determine how to market to them going forward.

Bonus – this information was identified in minutes and doesn’t require a data scientist. How’s that for actionable?

Insights at your fingertips. Increased efficiency and productivity. Find out more now in our on demand webinar Predictive Lead Scoring & Analytics Made Easy.
