Exciting News: WealthEngine Named One of North America’s Fastest Growing
Tech Companies
WealthEngine.com has been named the 10th fastest growing technology company in Maryland and the 250th
in North America by Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, one of the nation’s leading professional services
organizations. The rankings show the 50 fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications and
life sciences companies in Maryland and the 500 fastest growing companies of the same background in
North America. Rankings are based on the percentage revenue growth over five years from 2001–2005.
WealthEngine’s CEO Tony Glowacki credits technical innovation and customized pricing for the booming
nonprofit market with the company's 606 percent revenue growth from 2001–2005. Glowacki explains, “Our
primary goal has always been to push the envelope to create research tools that are flexible and powerful
enough to serve nonprofits of all sizes and missions.
Our products are tailored such that small nonprofits
can now afford the same type of data mining that previously only large nonprofits—universities, museums,
and hospitals—could afford. The result is that by using our products, nonprofits can maximize their
fundraising efforts and put those precious dollars to use in a way that we can all feel good about.”
Glowacki adds, “In six short years we have become the largest company in our industry and we have
done it the old fashioned way. We have had no venture financing, very little traditional financing, and
have been profitable for 4 years. We have basically built the business on revenues from the sale of our
services and a strong focus on the value we deliver to our clients.”
The Maryland Technology Fast 50 program is presented by Deloitte and sponsored by WilmerHale, NASDAQ and UK
Trade & Investment, in association with media sponsors PR Newswire and Washington SmartCEO Magazine. To
qualify for the Technology Fast 50, companies must have had operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 2001
and $5,000,000 in 2005, be headquartered in North America, and be a company that owns proprietary
technology or proprietary intellectual property that contributes to a significant portion of the company's
operating revenues; or devotes a significant proportion of revenues to the research and development of
technology. Winners of the 16 regional Technology Fast 50 programs in the United States and Canada were
automatically entered in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 program, which ranks North America’s top 500
fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications and life sciences companies.

Working with nonprofit boards and executives to help them succeed at fundraising is the focus of
Kellenberger Consulting. However, Marc Kellenberger of Kellenberger Consulting is no stranger to managing
nonprofits, having more than 26 years of experience with education, arts and human service nonprofit
organizations. His consulting firm offers fundraising, board development, and strategic planning services
for organizations in Arizona and the western United States.
Kellenberger tends to collaborate with other fundraisers. The Phoenix Philanthropy Group is a primary
partner. Kellenberger explains, “I look for other independent consultants who are equally committed to
making a difference.”
Kellenberger traditionally focuses on small organizations, such as the Arizona Humanities Council, Phoenix
Youth at Risk and the Central Arizona Shelter Services. He says, “Once an organization sees that they need
assistance, I help them to get over the hurdles, and start to grow and thrive. I look for the organization’s
opportunities and challenges, and I focus on ways to optimize the group’s strengths.” The Bead Museum in
Glendale, AZ, is one example of Kellenberger’s successes. A few years ago, the museum’s executive
director left, and the small board was struggling. Kellenberger worked to develop the board and build
individual giving. Now, the organization is healthy, and has a clear mission and vision.
Habitat for Humanity, Desert Foothills, purchased WealthEngine services at Kellenberger’s recommendation.
The organization was contemplating a comprehensive campaign with an emphasis on major gifts. The
organization’s annual income had been about $250,000. Then, a donor made a challenge grant of $500,000.
The organization needed a major gifts campaign in order to make the match.
“WealthEngine screened Habitat’s database of 400 donors, and revealed a potential of $94 million in
gifts,”says Kellenberger. “Suddenly, there was no need to go after new contacts. Here was a vast untapped
source of funds! WealthEngine’s findings gave board members confidence and encouragement to make their
solicitations – and succeed.”
Kellenberger sums up with this advice for nonprofits: “Don’t get discouraged. Don’t buy into what others
are saying about challenges in the philanthropic marketplace. Yes, there are disasters around the world
which require huge amounts of support. However, there are still many very generous people and organizations
that will support your organization. If you have a clear mission and present a good case, you will succeed
in your fundraising efforts.”

Client News: A Foundation for Research at Penn
“WealthEngine guides, directs, and helps prioritize prospect research as well as development officer
activity,” says Bob Baer, Director of Market Research and Analysis, Central, at the University of
Pennsylvania. “Our research staff uses WealthEngine day in and day out. It’s not the only resource we use,
but many of our projects include some work using WealthEngine.”
Baer explains that Penn uses WealthEngine in two distinct ways. First, WealthEngine serves as the
foundation of their prospect research. He explains, “We use WealthEngine to look up a particular
individual and then modify that prospect’s profile. It’s a great starting source to help us add further
details to a prospect profile. We also use WealthEngine information to identify other specific sources
such as Dun & Bradstreet, SEC filings, and Lexis-Nexis information.” Second, the university uses
WealthEngine to “electronically” screen lists of potential donors. Baer says, “We will provide only a
minimal amount of information – name, address, business name, spouse’s name – in a database format. Then,
WealthEngine will screen and match our list and summarize the matched results in a database format. In
this case, we don’t need a lot of WealthEngine information – just that the name is a match and the
prospect’s giving ability according to WealthEngine.”
Prioritizing is a key reason that Baer and development staff at the University of Pennsylvania use
WealthEngine. He explains, “We use WealthEngine to prioritize our prospect-research activities. Our lists
are just too large to do in-depth research on each individual. Let’s say our prior research rates a
prospect with a giving ability of $100,000+, and WealthEngine rates the prospect much higher. It may be
worth more examination of this particular prospect to see if anything about their situation has changed.”
“WealthEngine makes us more purposeful and resourceful in our prospect research,” continues Baer. “Let’s
say that an individual has made frequent, small gifts over the years and that WealthEngine indicates a
giving ability of $500,000+. Now, we know that there is interest as well as a capacity to give according to
WealthEngine, so we know to pursue additional research on that prospect.”
“In some cases, WealthEngine helps us uncover wealth in people with whom we are already close,” says Baer.
“At the University of Pennsylvania, we have a wide range of schools, and there is a huge income range among
our alumni. For example, Nursing School alumni do not have particularly high incomes compared to Wharton
School of Business alumni. An electronic screening by WealthEngine might reveal a high giving ability
rating for an alumna or alumnus from the School of Nursing. This might mean that the individual is the
chief nursing administrator at a hospital or that the household wealth is attributable to a spouse. Without
the WealthEngine rating, this individual might be someone we would not have recognized as a prospect that
we should research.”
“WealthEngine also gives us insight into ways to engage the extended family of our alumni. For example, it
allows us to research current parents. Also, WealthEngine’s electronic screenings help us select
prospective donors for specific fund-raising projects, whether its athletics, Wharton, or the Annenberg
Center for Performing Arts,” explains Baer.
“We also use WealthEngine to prioritize follow-up actions, notes Baer. “ For example, if a prospect had not
been rated by our staff, but WealthEngine estimated a giving ability at $25,000+, we might take a special
action in our annual giving program. That prospect might get a special invitation to a class reunion. Or,
we might write a different message on the annual appeal letter to that prospect. Or, for example, if a
Development Officer, Dean or Director was planning to visit a particular city, we might look at our
prospect lists as well as those WealthEngine prospects with high ratings to schedule visits.”
”WealthEngine works,” sums up Baer. “It enables us to be more strategic in focusing our research,
development officer, annual giving and alumni relations resources.”

Q: When I ran a search on a prospect, using the WebService Research Center, my search
uncovered matches to Lexis Nexis real estate reports. However, some of the property values were not
