What elements of data quality are most related to successful fundraising? How does giving history and prospect relationship play into creating strategic ask amounts? How can data help craft case-for-support that is tailored to donors’ specific interests and personal passions? All of these elements combined create the basics of a successful annual fund.

Our profession abounds with data, but it can be difficult to determine which information to use, and how, when reporting the ROI for frontline fundraisers. This session will provide information about what metrics are relevant, preparation of performance expectations for various levels of fundraisers, how to track this performance, and then preparing and reporting ROI for frontline fundraisers. This analysis can be critical when requesting additional funding, in making employment decisions and justifying/explaining to a governing board about fundraising efforts.
Key Points:
Great fundraisers understand the art of the ask—how to cultivate, when to solicit and for what purpose. An ROI report is a helpful tool to measure whether our fundraisers are taking best advantage of the data—the science—that is available to them to better perfect their art.

Understanding Return on Investment (ROI) is critical to a nonprofit organization’s long term strategic planning—regardless of their size, age, mission or the constituents they serve. With today’s tight economy and the increased pressure on nonprofits to improve every facet of their fundraising operation in terms of productivity, efficiency and value, organizations must be cognizant of the relationship between their investment in fundraising and the return on that investment. Having a command of ROI-related metrics helps to inform decision-making in strategic planning, budgeting, staffing and other key operational areas.
This presentation will explore various factors to consider when measuring the ROI of fundraising for the educational institution, and specifically the ROI when using prospect research. As part of the discussion of ROI and the benefits and costs of prospect research in lowering the cost of a dollar raised, Philip Brach, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at St. John’s College High School will share their use of prospect research and its ROI in the context of various fundraising campaigns.

This workshop will help you learn how to value options, understand retirement plans, director's fees and other types of deferred compensation. It will enable you to gain a better understanding of tracking and valuing stock splits and other classes of restricted stock. With some individuals the key to understanding their insider holdings is through a historic perspective.
