WealthWorks: Intern Edition: Summer 2012

Two marketing interns share their exceptional experience at WealthEngine so far.

We almost surrendered to the fact that we may have to spend our summers making countless cups of coffee instead of furthering our knowledge and skills in our chosen career paths – but after interviewing with WealthEngine, all hope for a fun but professional position was restored!

Now approaching the half-way mark of a 3-month summer position, we’ve learned a lot and put our skills to good use. We feel our work is greatly appreciated and that we make up a significant part of the Marketing Team.

On Day 1, we were introduced to everyone in the company and met with each department. We got a warm welcome with a brief description explaining everyone’s roles and how they fit into the big picture. It wasn’t even lunch time and we already loved the company culture of being open, diverse, and friendly. Everyone is a team-player.

“By continually encouraging us to voice our own opinions and ideas, they allow us to make a considerable contribution to the Marketing Team”
- Jhila and Brittany, Marketing Interns

Elizabeth and Jeremy, our managers and mentors for the summer, assigned us projects to begin with but also gave us the opportunity to set our own professional goals for the internship. Already we have accomplished several of these goals and are working on many more! By continually encouraging us to voice our own opinions and ideas, they allow us to make a considerable contribution to the Marketing Team.

A few of the awesome projects we’ve been working on (together and separately):

  • Website Refresh: photographed employees, created and distributed bio survey, wrote bios
  • WealthWorks Blog: researched competitors and presented findings, new ideas and improvements in PowerPoint
  • Handle social media: increasing marketing outreach, setting up Hootsuite account and continue to manage updates
  • Organized and prepared conference materials
  • Researching and expanding client lists
  • Participate and help with webinars and GoToMeetings

We’ve also had the opportunity for several group lunches, and the food is always great! We’ve been involved in two “Employee of the Month” meetings, which are a fun way to socialize and get to know one another better by celebrating birthdays and accomplishments.

It’s been a great summer so far at WealthEngine, not only have we accomplished a lot in the past month and a half but, we’ve learned even more. The best part is – there’s so much more to look forward to!

- Brittany is a rising junior at Towson University studying Advertising and PR.
