Assistant Director of Annual Giving, The Fletcher School, Tufts University

The mission of Fletcher's Office of Development and Alumni Relations (ODAR) is to serve The Fletcher School community by:

  1. Raising annual and capital funds to meet the Schools evolving and priority academic and institutional needs.
  2. Creating and sustaining long-term, relevant relationships with the Schools approximately 7,600 worldwide alumni and friends, including supporting our 60+ domestic and international alumni clubs and administering a world-class reunion and international symposia program.

Fletcher's Office of Development and Alumni Relations plans to grow its annual fund program to the $1.5 million mark, in part by increasing alumni participation to 35-40% in the next five years as well as continuing to focus on leadership giving ($1,000+) to the Fund.

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving, The Fletcher School will be responsible for working with the Director of The Fletcher Fund to champion Fletcher's Associates Program (leadership donors to the Fund), especially at the Young Associate level (graduates of the last decade leadership giving). The Assistant Director of Annual Giving, The Fletcher School will:

  • Manage lead volunteers
  • Manage class gift processes for residential and mid-career distance learning (GMAP) programs
  • Travel on prospect visits within the United States to increase number of $1,000+ leadership-level donors
  • Manage 40+ class fund agents, who are responsible for peer-solicitation of their classmates, for The Fletcher Fund
  • Handle responsibility for the creation and execution of a solicitation and giving strategy for each class including drafting, editing and producing each class agent solicitation, stewarding those relationships on an ongoing basis, and soliciting fund agents for annual fund gifts (preferably at the leadership level)
  • Manage the 3-2-1 Challenge programs for the three youngest classes, both managing the donor stewardship as well as encouraging these youngest alumni to give
  • Handle responsibility for securing (in cooperation with Director) the challenge donors for this program ($15,000 gifts)

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving should engage in at least 240 substantive contacts with prospects including 30+ face-to-face meetings each fiscal year. He/she will:

  • Utilize University resources (e.g. database) to manage portfolio, record all contacts with prospects and to document cultivation strategy, proposals, etc.
  • Engage faculty, University administrators, etc., as needed for the cultivation and solicitation of prospects

Basic Requirements:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in fundraising OR an Associate's degree with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in fundraising. The selected candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office and windows based computer programs, as well as some complex database experience (Advance, Millennium, etc.). The Assistant Director of Annual Giving must be able to demonstrate superior interpersonal skills and the ability to manage relationships and multiple tasks with ease. She/he must be energetic, intellectually curious and a good listener. The Assistant Director of Annual Giving must have a strong service orientation and be able to champion a volunteer/donor friendly environment in a complex University setting. He/she must also be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:
A graduate degree is preferred. International experience through study abroad, knowledge of a second (foreign) language, or life experience having traveled abroad is strongly preferred. Experience in working with a Fundraising and Donor Information Management System/Database is preferred, but comfort and experience using other complex technology systems will be considered.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Some domestic travel and weekend/evening work will be required.
