Alumni Communications Officer (maternity cover), University of Birmingham

£24,273 to £26,523 a year (pro rata), with potential progression to £29,853 a year

The University of Birmingham is one of the most ambitious institutions in the UK and is determined to be placed in the global top 50.  Alumni play an important part in the continuing success of the University and there is an opportunity for an experienced communicator to join the successful and dynamic team in the Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO).

As an excellent communicator with experience of writing for print and electronic publication, the Alumni Communications Officer will be an important part of the Alumni Relations team helping to deliver the DARO communications strategy.  The Alumni Communications Officer will develop and implement a plan to effectively utilise social media platforms and be responsible for the regular updating of the DARO website pages.  The Alumni Communications Officer will be expected to follow a brief and write high quality copy, appropriate for the target audience, for print and online publication, direct mail campaigns and email newsletters.

It is expected that the post holder will have relevant experience of writing copy, managing high-quality web content, using content management systems and experience of using social networking channels.   

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for which time off in lieu may be claimed. The post is offered on a 9 month fixed term with possible extension to 12 months.  Starting salary from £24,273 to £26,523 a year (pro rata), with potential progression to £29,853 a year.
